In grateful response to God’s abundant love, we bear in mind our integral connection to the earth and one another; we participate in God’s work of healing and mending creation.

Reconciliation
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission defined reconciliation as “an ongoing process of establishing and maintaining respectful relationships. A critical part of this process involves repairing damaged trust by making apologies, providing individual and collective reparations, and following through with concrete actions that demonstrate real societal change.”
The United Church of Canada has been involved in the process of reconciliation in a variety of ways. In 1998, the Right Rev. Bill Phipps, Moderator of the United Church, apologized to former students of the United Church Indian residential schools and their families and communities for our involvement in the Indian Residential School System.
At Oasis, we have approached this process of reconciliation in a variety of ways. We have hosted a blanket exercise, cohosted an ecumenical book study on the book 21 Things You May Not Know About the Indian Act by Bob Joseph, participated in the Walk for the Children on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and taken part in programs offered by IndigenEYEZ.
We continue to seek ways to educate ourselves and participate in the healing of these relationships.
