First of all, a little breath of relief as the glitch in the Calendar entries has been solved.  If you require some additions to the monthly calendar, do let us know, so that we are able to post them in a timely manner.    Please go through our Calendar of events along with our website pages and check out the events that may be of interest.   Perhaps attend one of our regular Sunday Services, if you haven’t experienced one yet.

There is something that came up for me the other day, while attending Sunday Service.  I learned that our Minister Ken Jones teaches “Laughing Yoga”.    I believe Oasis is going to have to include that in our reportoir of events, as long as Rev Ken agrees?   To include laughing into our daily lives, our meditation regime?  How much do you laugh each day? What will trigger a laugh for you?

There are many opportunities to attend different events, services, gatherings, socials and workshops at Oasis.  We are an ever-evolving happening hub.   A chance to experience something new,  share your talents and help others experience, that which is a part of you.   Be here to share the knowledge and at the same time, take in the moments.

Have you attended one of our Crystal Bowl Meditations?   They take place every Wed. evening at 6:30 pm, and you are all welcome.   The essence of tones, songs, colors radiating through one’s body as the Crystal Bowls are gently caressed during the evening, sharing themselves for all.  Providing that state of wellness and relaxation, a self-generative healing that varies from person to person. Allowing the mind to explore a deeper state, while at the same time journeying to that crucial moment where an awareness is achieved. The body and soul share their meditative requirements, with an essence of who they are and can be, to each of us.

Living Compassion Evenings will take place on the last Monday of every month at 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.  There are no prerequisite required, just a desire to explore living with Compassion. An essence of beauty, love, compassion being shared mutually and completely.  Our intention is to meet once a month for the full year.

The Blanket Exercise Workshop is on Sun. April 10, 2016 along with Worship at 11 am, Potluck lunch at 12 noon, and then the Workshop at 1 pm.  Please feel welcome to come at 11 or at 12 or at 1. Oasis United Church 2964 Skaha Lake Rd, Penticton, BC V2A 7H2

Oasis welcomes Darian Kennedy trained facilitator from Kairos Canada http://www.kairoscanada.org/who-we-are/mission-statement and UBCO student.

The “Blanket Exercise” is a teaching tool to share the historic and contemporary relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Developed in response to the 1996 Report of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples—which recommended education on Canadian-Indigenous history as one of the key steps to reconciliation, the Blanket Exercise covers over 500 years of history in a one and a half hour participatory workshop. Blanket Exercise participants take on the roles of Indigenous peoples in Canada. Standing on blankets that represent the land, they walk through pre-contact, treatymaking, colonization and resistance. They are directed by facilitators representing a narrator (or narrators) and the European colonizers. Participants are drawn into the experience by reading scrolls and carrying cards which ultimately determine their outcomes. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy. Ideally, the exercise is followed by a debriefing session in which participants have the opportunity to discuss the experience as a group. This will take the form of a talking circle. Part of us acting out the United Church apology and our commitment to reconciliation involves learning more.

This is a great opportunity to increase our awareness and knowledge. We hope that you can join us. For more information contact katycox@shaw.ca or look at http://www.kairoscanada.org/what-we-do/indigenous-rights/blanket-exercise
